Staff Scientist/Project Officer

Monasterium Laboratory is seeking a team-orientated, highly motivated and enthusiastic Staff Scientist/Project Officer to join our team.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The main responsibility of this post is to provide scientific and technical support to complete scientific and contract research projects under the direction of the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). This includes experimental project design, carrying out experiments and quantitative analyses, preparing progress and milestones reports, and presenting research results in internal and external meetings.

The tasks required to be undertaken include:

  • Organize the work load for each assigned project in order to meet deadlines
  • Provide project updates to Chief Project Officer and Chief Scientific Officer
  • Supervise and train technicians, guest scientists and student assistants
  • Establish new techniques and perform lab work
  • Represent the company at conferences and other external meetings
  • Discuss scientific results with other company employees
  • Professional and responsible data documentation and archiving
  • Perform statistical analysis and presentation of data with Excel and GraphPad Prism
  • Prepare milestone reports and manuscripts
  • Participating in scientific lab meetings and the organization of workshops
  • Proposing new innovative projects and/or techniques

Eligibility

  • Completed training as an MD or PhD
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English (company language: English)
  • Substantial experience in biological research laboratories
  • Publication of at least one peer-reviewed first author paper in an international life sciences journal
  • Priority will be given to applicants with documented experience in skin/hair research

Research Technician

Monasterium Laboratory is seeking a team-orientated, highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Technician to join our team

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The main responsibilty of this post is to provide technical support to complete projects undertaken at the lab under the supervision of the Project Officer in charge.The tasks required to be undertaken include:

  • Hair follicle and skin organ culture

  • Fixation and embedding of tissue

  • Cryo and paraffin sections

  • Quantitative determination of different hair cycle stages

  • Performing various imunohistochemical stains and molecular biology techniques

  • Use of immunofluorescence and light microscopy
  • Taking images and performing image analysis, using various programs (e.g. BZ-Analyzer, BZ viewer and ImageJ)
  • General organization of the lab including forward planning regarding equipment and materials required, overseeing and maintaining stock of media, chemical and other consumables.
  • Participating in scientific lab meetings and the organization of workshops
  • Documentation of data and creation of archives
  • Support and training of student assistants
  • Responsible for the safe disposal and storage of hazardous waste in accordance with local rules and legal requirements.
  • Responsible for the care and cleanliness of common user laboratory areas, facilities and / or equipment.

Eligibility

  • Completed training as a Medical / Biological-technical assistant  or an honours bachelor degree in a relevant subject
  • Sound knowledge of English (Company language: English)
  • Good knowledge in immunohistochemistry and routine histology
  • Good knowledge of Computer Skills and Microsoft Office
  • Experience in biological research laboratories and with laboratory techniques

PhD Studentship - The Microbiome of the Human Hair Follicle 

 

Monasterium Laboratory (ML) is delighted to offer a fully-funded PhD studentship to work at our state-of-the-art laboratory in the beautiful city of Münster, Germany. ML (www.monasteriumlab.com) is a dermatological research company specializing in preclinical hair, pigmentation, neuroendocrinology, immunology and wound healing research in human skin health and disease.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated, suitably qualified, and enthusiastic graduate to pursue a PhD in the microbiome of the hair follicle. You will map the spatiotemporal microbiome associated with the healthy human hair follicle and test the hypothesis that altering the HF microbiome affects the HF cycle. The project will take advantage of the expertise and dedicated state-of-the-art laser capture microdissection laboratory suite at the Monasterium Laboratory as well as utilizing next generation sequencing to identify microorganisms within the HF compartments. As part of this project you will have access to an array of skin and HF technologies needed to successfully deliver the first human HF spatiotemporal reference microbiome.

 

You will join a vibrant, multidisciplinary and international team that is embedded into a global network of academic collaborators, where continuing professional development and engagement is fostered. International travel to selected collaborating academic laboratories of ML is envisioned.

 

Applicants must have a minimum of a UK 2.1 degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate life sciences discipline. A relevant Master’s degree in microbiology, skin research or pharmacology would be an advantage but is not essential.
