"Team Leader, Innovation Projects"

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities: To serve as Team Leader and supervisor for all of ML’s “innovation projects”, reporting directly to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), the Chief Consultant, and the Owner(s). These “innovation projects” encompass, for example, the development of novel, proprietary assays, basic translational skin & hair research projects that explore potential new business areas for ML, the establishment of new key methodology, responsibility for related scientific publications,  presentations, and assistance with related intellectual property protection.

 

Tasks include

  • Organize and supervise the work for each assigned project in order to meet internal deadlines and quality standards
  • Provide regular and timely project updates to CSO, the Chief Consultant, and the Owner(s)
  • Supervise and train technicians, other scientists and student assistants
  • Establish new techniques, perform hands-on lab work, and trouble-shooting in connection with the assigned projects
  • Must rapidly acquire excellent knowledge of the relevant literature and recent scientific developments in connection with the assigned projects
  • Represent the company at conferences and other external meetings
  • Discuss scientific results with other company employees and contribute to internal educational activities
  • Professional and responsible data documentation and archiving
  • Perform statistical analysis and presentation of data with Excel and GraphPad Prism
  • Prepare timely milestone reports and manuscripts
  • Participating in scientific lab meetings and the organization of workshops
  • Proposing new innovation projects and/or techniques

Eligibility

  • MD, PhD,  or MD/PhD
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English  (Company language: English)
  • Publication of several papers in an international life sciences journal in the field of dermatology
  • Documented extensive experience in skin/hair research
  • Adequate experience and expertise to be able to serve as Team Leader
  • Documented experience with project management and supervising technicians, students and/or and scientists

Requirements

Type of contract: Temporary (2 years’ initial contract) with possibility of extension. 
Salary: A competitive salary will be offered, depending on the candidate’s prior work experience and seniority, with gradual increments expected depending on performance.

"International Skin Biotech Internship"

Monasterium Laboratory offers a 6 months internship in a small contract research and skin biotechnology company specializing in preclinical hair, pigmentation, and wound healing research in the human system.

The intern will acquire detailed knowhow in current skin research methodology by getting fully integrated into ongoing wet-lab and computer-based skin and hair research projects. Methodological focus: advanced human hair follicle and skin organ culture, 3D cell culture systems, histochemistry, immunohistology/immunofluorescence microscopy, qRT-PCR, quantitative (immuno-)histomorphometry.

Co-authorship on company-led publications possible, if justified by the intern's contribution of data/intellectual input.

The internship provides a honorarium (currently expected to be ca. 1414€/month before taxes, 40h/week). Upon mutual agreement, the internship can be extended once for another 6 months.

Eligibility:  Masters or doctoral degree in any of the life sciences and documented hands-on experience in immunohistology/immunofluorescence microscopy. Applicants with prior, publication-documented experience in skin/hair research will be given preference. Two letters of recommendation or names of 3 referees are required. Good command of oral and written English essential (company work language: English). Qualified and motivated applicants who wish to return to active research in the life sciences after a longer period of detachment from it (incl. maternity/paternity leave, change of job, unemployment, refugees etc.) are welcome.

“Research Technician”

Monasterium Laboratory is also seeking a team-orientated, highly motivated and enthusiastic Research Technician to join our team.

 

The main responsibility of this post is to provide technical support to complete projects undertaken at the lab under the supervision of the Project Officer in charge.

 

The tasks required to be undertaken include:

  • Hair follicle and skin organ culture
  • Fixation and embedding of tissue
  • Cryo and paraffin sections
  • Quantitative determination of different hair cycle stages
  • Performing  various imunohistochemical stains and molecular biology techniques
  • Use of immunofluorescence and light microscopy
  • Taking images and performing image analysis, using various programs (e.g. BZ-Analyzer, BZ viewer and ImageJ)
  • General organization of the lab including forward planning regarding equipment and materials required, overseeing and maintaining stock of media, chemical and other consumables.
  • Participating in scientific lab meetings and the organization of workshops
  • Documentation of data and creation of archives
  • Support and training of student assistants
  • Responsible for the safe disposal and storage of hazardous waste in accordance with local rules and legal requirements.
  • Responsible for the care and cleanliness of common user laboratory areas, facilities and / or equipment.

Eligibility

  • Completed training as a Medical / Biological-technical assistant  or an honours bachelor degree in a relevant subject
  • Sound knowledge of English  (Company language: English)
  • Good knowledge in immunohistochemistry and routine histology
  • Good knowledge of Computer Skills and Microsoft Office
  • Experience in biological research laboratories and with laboratory techniques
